THE HCS PROGRAMME

A research-based programme to help you create a happier school and raise standards.

Wellbeing and PSHE are just as important as maths and English

Want to improve teaching and learning AND outcomes? Of course you do.

Going to do lots of extra maths and English lessons to achieve your goals? Of course you are.

STOP! It looks like you’re reading this in the nick of time.

If you’re driving school improvement, focusing on wellbeing and PSHE is just as important as maths and English lessons. They’re fundamental in the development of motivated, enthusiastic, happy learners.

Which is why, in 2012, we created the Happy-Centred Schools programme (HCS).

Our pioneering HCS programme is research-based, flexible, easy-to-use and, most importantly, fun. It increases opportunities for all children to develop resilience, coping skills and good mental health, from Foundation Stage to Year 6.

It’s also the best wellbeing programme out there. We would say that wouldn’t we? But we’re not blowing our own trumpet, schools have told us how it’s led to measurable improvement and helped to raise standards. Repeatedly, the impact has been recognised by pupils, school staff, governors, parents … and even Ofsted inspectors.

At Kaizen Primary, the KS1 and PSHE leader told us that the HCS programme has contributed to a 15% increase in all subjects in Year 2. She said that children are more confident to tackle learning challenges and this has impacted on progress.

Also, lunchtime incidents have reduced from approximately 53 per month to 18. What’s not to like about that?

Another primary loves the programme so much, it has the HCS logo on its minibus and is spreading the love on every school trip round Surrey

The HCS programme is made up of 3 parts:

PART 1 - Philosophy 4 Children sessions: to help develop pupils’ ability to express their own opinions and be respectful of others’ views, whilst also improving their communication skills.

PART 2 - Downloadable lesson plans and resources: all compliant with statutory guidance and linked to the five themes of happiness, which are:
● Self-confidence
● Achievement and Success
● Positive Relationships
● Coping Skills
● Support

PART 3 - Laughology’s FLIP-it Thinking model: a resilience and coping toolkit for children of all ages. It can be adopted individually, as a class or as a school.

Working alongside the programme, or in splendid isolation, are our fantastic pupil workshops, INSET days, twilights and conference keynotes.
