Practically Positive Relationships

Helping pupils to build and maintain stronger, more positive relationships with their classmates and teachers.

The length and content of workshops can be adapted for children and young people in all Key Stages

Learning to get on with others is a skill. And not one every child finds easy. After all, if other people don’t like the same football team as you or watch the same TV shows, there must be something wrong with them, right? Mary Poppins herself would describe you as practically perfect, so it’s their problem, not yours.

And when they don’t agree with you? Well, not even a spoonful of sugar will calm you down.

But getting on well with classmates and teachers is vital to a harmonious learning environment, a calm playground and personal happiness. So to build and maintain positive relationships, children and young people need to develop life skills.

They have to be able to communicate and listen well; recognise their own and others’ emotions; empathise and understand other people’s opinions; kindly challenge or debate things that they don’t agree with. Phew!

And that’s where this session comes in, as Laughology’s facilitator guides your pupils through all of the above, whilst having a lot of laughs and fun at the same time.

Here’s what you can expect

  • Internal, active and focused listening
  • Some debating/P4C – building on comments and kindly challenging each other
  • Aspects of social and emotional intelligence
  • Different communication styles
  • Team building and problem-solving skills

What you’ll get by the end

  • Pupils with a greater understanding of their own strengths and areas to work on when communicating and building relationships
  • Children who can see how having fun and problem-solving together benefits everyone
  • A calmer, happier, kinder classroom and playground environment. Hooray!
What an exceptional and captivating presenter. The children were fully enthralled and have been using the range of strategies to become more confident and empowered.
